When his Your Old Droog‘s debut LP finally hit the presses and put to rest any suspicion that he might, in fact, be Nas, the world could finally stop sleuthing and just focus on the music. Your Old Droog offered a brief return to vintage-era production sounds and bonafide lyrical acrobatics–a pairing that isn’t completely missing from today’s hip-hop landscape per se, but is seemingly ever more difficult to find.
Now, three months since the drop of Droog’s full-length debut, the instrumentals to the album–all 18 of its tracks–have been put up for streaming on Soundcloud by the album’s lead producer, El RTNC.. And so there isn’t much more to say that hasn’t already been said about Droog, this LP, and these songs, except that now you can sink even deeper into their dry drums, roving bass parts, spy flick guitars and all manner of other production goodies. The snare brush echoes on “Nutty Bars” are all the easier to enjoy, and the flam hits on “Gunsmoke Cologne” are now completely unbound by words. Droog himself just released a new EP entitled Kinison, which features plenty of fresh and dope material from EL RTNC. But for now, listen to these top-shelf tasteful instrumentals–sometimes beats is all you need.
