It’s been a while since we’ve heard such an intelligently smooth bit of modern hip-hop. Rapper Big Pooh and producer extraordinaire Apollo Brown have linked for the thumping new cut “Augmentation,” an early single off of Pooh’s upcoming (and aptly-titled) Words Paint Pictures LP. “Augmentation” packs one of the classic piano-and-soul-vocals sample flips that Brown has made his calling card, and Pooh good hard in the mile-wide cut. By the time the second verse hits and the NC MC suggests his rivals hang himself, it’s clear that the new single is an iron hand in a velvet glove, cold at its core…
Watch Kanye West Debut “All Day” Live At The 2015 BRIT Awards
Kanye, Kanye, Kanye. Seems like all we hear these days is your boy’s name with some heated verbiage attached. And rightfully so, especially if you’re one of these champions of artistic truism. But today we’re being treated to some new ish from the man that can do no right. While the states are still stuck in their 9 to 5s, the UK has been celebrating the 2015 BRIT Awards, which played host to the unveiling of the first full treatment of his new song “All Day.” After hearing the track in a number of manifestations (with and …

Action Bronson’s album Mr. Wonderful drops on March 24 and today he released the album trailer to increase the excitement. Kanye West Premieres “All Day” at 2015 BRIT Awards
This year’s BRIT Awards experienced some eleventh hour drama. Rihanna was scheduled to perform, but she was pulled after skipping out on rehearsals. None other than her “FourFiveSeconds” collaborator Kanye West stepped up to fill her spot in a big way. Naturally he employed a mass of choreographed dancers and two huge fucking flamethrowers, but […] The post Kanye West Premieres “All Day” at 2015 BRIT Awards appeared first on Pigeons & Planes.
Lupe Fiasco & Nikki Jean x The Roots “Little Death” Live On The Tonight Show
Tonight’s airing of The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon featured a performance from OKP favorites Lupe Fiasco and Nikki Jean. Lupe was on hand to perform his stand-out track, “Little Death,” off his recently released LP, Tetsuo & Youth. The song, which features Nikki Jean on the hook, already has a live sound to it, but, as often is the case, the addition of The Roots to the track really upgraded the song for me (that horn section was killing’ it, too). Very dope performance, check it out, below. Make sur to pick up Lupe’s Tetsuo & Youth via iTunes. Regular readers of my column 5 On It (precious few of you though there may be) will recognize the name pizza boy. as a Saturday staple, one of the more unique voices from almost a year’s worth of under-the-radar rap findings. Ruthlessly self-aware and self-deprecating, clever, and consistently improving as a rapper (or, more specifically, […] The post Video Premiere: pizza boy. – “delicious cheesesticks. Virginia duo Sunny & Gabe are back with a new song that features another P&P favorite, D.R.A.M. The laidback, jazzy “I Luv It” is paired with a set of visuals that takes you through The Parlor in Virginia as the duo parties with their friends (yes, you’ll experience FOMO for not being there). Blur Ends 12-Year Hiatus with “Go Out”
Blur hasn’t released an album since 2003’s Think Tank. Frontman Damon Albarn has been busy, releasing a solo album last year to cap off some fine work with Gorillaz (look for a 2016 comeback). He did not do a bad job with either of those things, so news of a resurrected Blur is welcomed with […] The post Blur Ends 12-Year Hiatus with “Go Out” appeared first on Pigeons & Planes.
Watch Kid Cudi’s Appearance on “Comedy Bang! Bang!”
Seeing how artists react to the slightly offbeat humor of Comedy Bang! Bang! is always interesting. We saw Schoolboy Q take his turn on the couch, and this time Scott and Reggie get Kid Cudi as a guest. Watch a short clip above. Cudi is currently working on his album MOTM3. There’s no release date yet, but […] The post Watch Kid Cudi’s Appearance on “Comedy Bang! Bang!” appeared first on Pigeons & Planes.
OKP Premiere: Souls Of Mischief’s Opio & Free The Robots “Let The Bass Go” w/ A Booming, Tripped-Out Visual
Souls Of Mischief‘s mighty Opio joins forces with Low End Theory champion Free The Robots for the hallucinogenic thrill of a new clip for their latest single “Let The Bass Go” off the forthcoming collaborative EP The Subconscious Mind. Mixing heady, synthed-out beat construction that feels akin to Dilla‘s Kraftwerk phase and a clip the emulates those very wavy sentiments, Opio and FTR make good on their musical mission statement, providing the bass with all the sonic and visual space it can bear. The Hiero ambassador and his West Coast bredren’s forthcoming piece has already seen one hazy number (ripe for your evening burn-out sessions) in “…
