The Justseeds Open Type Project began as an early covid hobby. It started with an existing font from Chris Stain, a couple of alphabets I had floating around, a historical font (Libertario), and the Fontself extension for Illustrator.
A few of the earliest fonts have aged well, especially the rougher and more hand-drawn ones. But some of the other ones suffered from my impatient glee multiplied by my technical ignorance. So, as we continue to add new fonts I am also slowly going back through the old ones and revising and fixing the many errors contained within. I’ve learned much and still have a long way to go.
Below is an up-to-date list of changes that have been made, the most recent versions of fonts are on their respective download pages (linked), old versions have been removed.
Changelog:
- I found that the old non-commercial license felt unnecessarily restrictive. The new license no longer has a blanket non-commercial stipulation but is still a (somewhat awkwardly applied) Creative Commons license: All fonts are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license (CC BY-SA). This Creative Commons license means that these fonts can be used, shared, and adapted; attributed when appropriate; and any adaptations must fall under the same license. This license enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format. If you remix, adapt, or build upon the material, you must license the modified material under identical terms.
- This human language was added to the license: These fonts can be used for activist projects of all sorts. These fonts can be used for liberatory social and cultural productions. These fonts are not for sale and must be shared freely.

I made a short e-zine about the collection of fonts (Antifascistas) that were derived from publications of the revolutionary Spanish feminist left. This zine can be found here.
And finally, I was interviewed about the Justseeds Open Type Project for the book What is Post-Branding?, which puts forth a focused critique on the current apocalyptic landscape of professional design, specifically the concept of brands and branding’s historic roots in fascism and systems of control and violence. The design of the book is fun, wild, and challenging; all in support of the ideas within. I am very flattered to have the Justseeds Open Type Project included in the book’s examples of anti-branding. Published by the consistently excellent Set Margins’ Press.
