Searching through SoundCloud these days is often the same as going threw a dusty old bin of LP’s at a record store. You search and search for that perfect record to impress your friends + cat, and you often turn up with horrible bands from the 80’s you never knew existed–and in the modern sense–SoundCloud is littered with terrible Diplo covers by 12 year-olds who just bought their first copy of Garage Band. That being said, when you do find your crown jewel; it’s quite noticeable. I first stumbled upon Chloe Martini, when she first posted her cover of Sia’s Chandelier. In a sea of terrible remixes that sound worse than the last one, Chloe’s stood out. Finally, it was something different, that not only differed from the original piece, but improved upon it. Chloe is a serious contender in the wide world of Electronic music, and someone to look out for. Her new EP Private Joy, comes out soon, and is a lovely 20 minute ride through everything 80’s and then some: it screams Daft Punk, New Order, R. Kelly, Toro y Moi ect.

Who were some musical influences on your new EP?

While I was making the EP, I’ve been listening to a lot of 80s artists like Al B Sure, Sherrick, Keith Sweat or New Edition. Michael Jackson has always been a huge inspiration as well.

When did you know you wanted to be a musician?

It’s always been my childhood dream, but there was one turning point in my life. In junior high school I came across a piano piece by Ryuichi Sakamoto. It amazed me so much and from that particular moment, I just knew that I wanted to become a music composer.

What was your inspiration for wanting to cover Sias chandelier?

What I liked the most about ‘Chandelier’ is it’s melancholic and sad melody of the vocals. I wanted to emphasize those emotions but at the same time add some new ones from myself.

Before getting into electronic music, what were you listening to?

I still listen to many different genres. I love Foals or The XX, I love Lykke Li and Björk. I also am a big fan of film music.

If you each had a choice to collaborate with any artist who would you pick?

Anybody? It’d be Michael Jackson. From people who are around today, Pharrell Williams, Beyonce or some 80s artists like Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis & Anita Baker.

If you had to describe your music in three words what would you say?

Fluid, nostalgic, sensual.

Favorite guilty pleasuresong right now?

Love Dollhouse – ‘Can I’, 90s vibes are back!
