One of the biggest records in recent years, Disclosure’s Latch not only broke the duo in the US but launched the career of Sam Smith in the process. With an astonishing 35 million plays on SoundCloud alone, Disclosure combine garage and house influences with their unmistakable pop sensibilities. With interesting chords throughout and unique synth sounds, we thought we’d enlist our resident deconstructor Ski Oakenfull to tackle the track using Ableton Live on this week’s Friday Forum Live!
As an added bonus, we’re giving you the Ableton Project, full of the sounds and MIDI Ski used for the deconstruction, for free! All you’ve got to do is follow this link and download the project. You’ll need to register on our website to download the file. Enjoy!
Latch broke both Disclosure and Sam Smith in the States
Ski’s our Lead Course Developer as well as designing the Electronic Music Composition module which is all about putting music theory into practice in your tracks. Using exclusive deconstructions from Julio Bashmore, Avicii and many more, you’ll learn how chord progressions, key signatures and riffs can help you move beyond the loop and finish your tracks. The module is part of our wider Logic and Ableton diplomas – find out more about them here and watch the FFL! live here at 1pm GMT on Fri 27th Feb or below when it’s archived! Make sure you subscribe to our YouTube channel for more tutorials and live events.
