DIAHANN CAROLL PULLS OUT OF ‘RAISIN IN THE SUN’ – REPLACED BY LaTanya Richardson Jackson

Word has it that the legendary actress Diahann Caroll has dropped out of the upcoming revival of “A Raisin In the Sun”. She was set to play the role of the mother, Lena Younger opposite Denzel Washington as Walter Lee Younger in April for a 14 week run.

According to reports, the 78 year-old cited the rigorous demands of stage acting as the reason for exiting. A breast cancer survivor, also had to drop out of a Kennedy Center production of Ernest Thompson’s “On Golden Pond” because of a herniated disk and severe muscle strain.

Reports say that Samuel L. Jackson’s wife, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, will be taking over the role. However, she would probably require makeup because she is only 5 years older than Denzel.
