Depeche Mode member drops trippy release

Usually we’d say there’s nothing like some washed up 80s icon returning to make sub par tunes – but that just does’t seem to apply to Martin Gore. Indeed, the first offering from the Depeche Mode songwriter is more of a reinvention than a continuation of big 80s synth pop – as shown in first tune ‘Europa Hymn’.

Waving goodbye to catchy vocals and pleathery vibes – ‘Europa Hymn’ instead implies an album full of ambient vibes and refreshing bass claps. Not dissimilar to minimalist Eno stylings or later David Bowie (the acid years), the single brings maturity to a mainstream style of ambient. The first release in a 16-track album of instrumental – we’re excited to listen to the LP as a whole.

“I wanted to keep the music very electronic, very filmic and give it an almost sci-fi like quality,” Martin explains of the album via Resident Advisor. “Music is a necessity for me. I go into the studio at least five days a week, every week, so once I had the idea and the template, the process was quick and fun.”

Set for release under the moniker of MG on Mute Records – you can expect the entire album on the 28th April.
