Coi Leray Aims To ‘Set The Tone’ On New ‘Pop Star’ Snippet

Coi Leray has teased another new release, this time asserting her position of dominance over any potential competition, be it in music or in life.

The 27-year-old previewed a snippet of a new track during an Instagram Live session last week. In a clip from the session, she can be seen lip syncing to the track, while playing from compute. After what appears to be the song’s hook, Leray stops the song and raps that portion of the song acapella.

“Tell her act her if she want in this bitch/I should be in Vogue in this fit, like huh?/When I walk in set the tone in this bitch,” she raps, before returning to her speaking voice saying: “Honestly, Pop Star. Hold on;” then playing the track again.

Coi Leray has been on a role this year. On January 25, the “Players” rapper declared a new era in her artistry with the release of her first single with her new label, Island Records: a Mike Will Made-It production titled “Wanna Come Thru.”

“This song is about me on my grown and sexy,” Coi said in a statement. “Grown and sexy means being so in love with yourself — that it is one of the most sexiest, maturest, grownest things that a woman can [be]. As you get older and you tap into your womanhood and your femininity and I feel like you should embrace that.

“It’s feeling good for yourself; looking in the mirror and just loving yourself. 2024 is going to be my grown and sexy era. I’m taking over this year. I’ve got so much new music and a whole new side of me to get to know.”

Mike Will Made-It also applauded Coi’s latest release, dubbing it a “culture-shifting record.”

Coi Leray Opens Up About Working To Become A ‘Better’ Version Of Herself

Earlier this month, she teamed up with Metro Boomin for a new track, “Enjoy Yourself,” which was shared in a surprising place: an ad for body spray.

Though the track had been available online for since February, the bouncy and cheerful song appeared in a “Fit Check” commercial for AXE body spray that debuted toward the end of last month. The song was made exclusively for the company.

The commercial is part of the brand’s latest “Smell Finer. Get Closer” campaign.
