Pittsburgh, PA, November 2014

Wheat paste found in Pittsburgh, PA, picture taken last November. For context, these appeared on the streets after this: Media coverage on the brutal assault and murder of 16 year old Teaira Whitehead emphasized that she was previously “known to law enforcement”. Note that another WTAE report on a murder committed on the street where I live, of a young white man, emphasized that he was a devoted young father and only notes in the last bit that he had a history of drug charges.

JBbTC 209: Little New World pt.1

From the early 20th century through the early 1960s, one of the largest Left organizations in the US (if not the largest) was the Communist Party USA. The propaganda wing of the Party created multiple publishing arms, including New Century Publishers (which I featured HERE back in 2011) and the still-publishing International Publishers. International was by far the largest operation, and in the 1950s and 60s they spun off a paperback imprint called New World Paperbacks. I started looking at this on this blog way back in 2010 (see HERE and HERE). Well, in the four years since I’ve been collecting more New World books, …

Recap RERO solo exhibition by “GATED COMMUNITY…”

Posted on:

Rero Opened his first Solo Exhibition of 2015 at Fabien Castanier Gallery in Los Angeles over the weekend. The exhibition titled “Gated Community” showcased many familiar themes in the artists work as well as some larger installation pieces. A mixed media installation and a sculptural series of book pieces were also exhibited. The press release states that the artist is at the “forefront of an urban conceptual experience,” which would explain the direction takes with his recent work. Leading up to the show I was getting updates of Rero’s insitu installations in the desert and Salton Sea. The photographs documented the artists interventions and interaction with the landscape. …

156 ALLSTARZ Representing at The Big Egg Hunt presented by Fabergé

Posted on:

Text by Faust. Cope2 and Indie links by 156 ALLSTARZ.The Big Egg Hunt presented by Fabergé was the world’s largest Easter egg hunt, featuring over 250 oversized eggs designed by an extraordinary roster of artists ranging from Jeff Koons to Zaha Hadid and Ralph Lauren to, well, me. Throughout the month of April these eggs were hidden all over the city in a veritable public art scavenger hunt. For a few remaining days, through April 25th, the entire collection can be seen on display at Rockefeller Center.Recognizing the great, once in a lifetime opportunity to create a Fabergé egg, I encrusted mine in ornamental calligraphy composed of 5000 Swarovski crystals. All of the eggs are being auctioned off online with proceeds benefitting the Studio in a…

Unable to contain his drive for artistic expression, he was quickly drawn to Paris, where he found the freedom and inspiration to create his most notable works and establish a burgeoning artistic career.

Reminiscent of Jackson Pollock or Jean Dubuffet, JonOne’s…
