10 of the Best Dance One Hit Wonders

Posted on:

There’s a lot of dance music out there, and there’s a lot of people making it. Every now and again someone comes out with one super incredible chart-topping hit, only to be never heard of again. Here’s our favourite one hit wonders from the dance music world. Enjoy!Eiffel 65, ‘Blue’This is SUCH a good song! The Italian euro-dance-pop act blew us all outta the water with the thumping, lyrically ambiguous ‘Blue.’ Sure, they also released ‘Move Your Body,’ but ‘Blue’ was huge that they make it onto our one hit wonder list.DJ Sammy, ‘Heaven’What a tuuuune! A cover of a 1983 Bryan Adams song, this single went on to become one of the defining dance hits of the early 2000…

You’re Slacking, this 16 year old runs his own vinyl label

Posted on:

Detroit teen Jarett Koral has been slinging wax for the past two years in Motor City, what are you doing? Ok, to be clear his mum is the official ‘president’ because HE’S NOT OLD ENOUGH. You hear me right, the guy has pressed releases in the double digits including Macaulay Culkin’s recent joke/band The Pizza Underground (pls refrain from Home Alone jokes ppl)“I’m not really making a ton of money with it, but it’s cool and I have something to show for it.” We’ve recently seen loads of young kids who have mastered the art of pressing buttons and wielding vengeance samples on Ableton, but this guy has some real style. By giving new meaning to saving your…

Album Review: Foster the People – Supermodel

Posted on:

Foster the People – Supermodel Style: Indie Pop Pros: It’s Foster the People’s newest album! Cons: Following their huge debut album Torches. Overview: Torches put Foster the People on the map… and Supermodel well, contains some nice songs. If Torches was their more Pop album, then Supermodel fits as the more mature version, trying to distance itself from what made them popular, but still

Hidden Gem – REM – Tighten Up (Paul Nice Edit)

Posted on:

When I think alternative Rock band REM I think songs such as Losing My Religion and Everybody Hurts I did not realize the band actually used to perform at house parties playing many Soul/Funk classics like the funky track right here. Released as promo on flexidisc for Bucketfull Of Brains Magazine back in 1985 REM’s cover of Archie & The Drells 1968 classic “Tighten Up” has a simplistic funky vibe that I’m sure you will all love.DJ/Producer Paul Nice treatment of the tune includes rearranging the tune a bit but for the most part his “edit” does stray far from

Lifetime & S.I. – From The Hart (Album)

Posted on:

“From The Hart” is the debut album from Long Island, NY duo L.I.F.E.T.I.M.E. & S.I. The album features guest appearances from Blaq Poet, Cyrus Malachi, Sha Stimuli, Phoenix Da Icefire and D Fabs and is produced entirely by UK hip-hop producer Endemic Emerald. Endemic never disappoints on the production tip and he surely doesn’t here, coming through with a ton of head nodding instrumentals centered around that “golden era” sound. As far as the rhymes go, the album is just as nice as the production, with L.I.F.E.T.I.M.E. and S.I. both kicking some heartfelt and personal rhymes while touching on a variety of topics throughout the projects…

Listen To Remixes of Ludacris By Brodinski, Lunice and Sinjin Hawke

Posted on:

Ludacris, probably not Stoney Roads fodder but we’re making an exception with three hazy remixes of “Party Girls” feat Jeremih, Wiz Khalifa and originally produced by Cashmere Cat last year.Seems like Cashy called up a few buds for the real deal remix treatment and enlisted Bromance boss Brodinski, Kanye West collaborator Sinjin Hawke and trap-arm purveyor Lunice who was in town recently for a few shows. He told Fader post a big premiere “Lunice, Brodinski and Sinjin Hawke have all been so incredibly influential for my music, and it feels so special having these dudes remix the first rap song i ever produced” – aww.Are they …

Listen to a thumping mix from Shangai’s Conrank ahead of his Perth show

Posted on:

In the lead up to two shows in the coming weeks for HOOCH and to celebrate Surface Tension’s first birthday, event headliner Conrank has pumped us a stupidly eclectic and heavy offering throughout a 50 minute mix to get you amped for them.Hailing from Shangai, his EP ‘Danger Rank’ topped the Juno Download charts and his 2014 Saturate Records release ‘Exhale Therapy’ featured none other than DJ Shadow. His tunes have found their way into the sets of Buku, Gaslamp Killer and Starkey to name a few, he’s worked with Doshy, and he’s backing his tour up this month with a week-by-week four track release for hyper-based label Die High Records. With the Surface Tension event happening at Perth’s…

Album Review: Skrillex – Recess

Posted on:

Skrillex – Recess Style: "something" step Pros: Skrillex Cons: Is the Skrillex sound over done? Overview: Surprisingly, Recess is Skrillex’s first studio album after years of releasing a bunch of EPs.  Yes, it does contain the big Skrillex staple which made him famous… so Skrillex fans don’t have to worry as his style is pretty much kept in tact.  However, that’s my take from this album…

DJ Intel – I Haz Vinyl 1

Some new dopeness from DJ Intel. I always enjoyed Chicago’s DJ Intel mixes in the past and this new mix of downtempo Hip Hop joints makes for nice listening for the afternoon. “I’ve been sorting through and organizing my crates of records lately. Why not play them? Here’s a live mix. Nothing fancy. Just me, some wax and a Pioneer 909.”DJ IntelDJ IntelI Haz Vinyl 1 (2015) |78 MB| Download/Listen Here
