It’s rare to hear a boring Bboy breaks mix as most breaks mix contain hard to ignore funky drums. This mix by Taiwan’s DJ Philizhao is no exception. One thing I absolutely love about this and many other Bboy breaks mixes is the inclusion of many little know tunes. With Hip Hop mixes there’s only a handful of deejays that release mixes that do not contain the same old radio hits. Sadly there doesn’t seem to be a expectation of digging for tunes in Hip Hop as it is within the Bboy community. Hopefully it can change in future til then enjoy this solid mix of funky drums. I.Am.Tru.Starr – Eat.Pray.Dilla EP
I.Am.Tru.Starr is an independent hip-hop artist hailing from Rochester, NY who dropped a crazy EP, “Eat.Pray.Dilla”, back in November of 2014. The EP is the first release from I.Am.Tru.Starr and his One.Nation.Under.Art collective and was inspired by the late, great J. Dilla himself. I gave the project a listen earlier today and was really liking what I heard, which is not surprising since the EP has earned support from Toney Smith, Ma Dukes and The J Dilla foundation. Peep it below and then make sure to send any donations via PayPayl to The J Dilla Foundation at yanceymaureen@yahoo

JONONE "CRYPTATION" EXHIBITION @ JULIEN KOLLY GALLERY
Longstanding graffiti artist JonOne presents a new exhibition titled “Cryptation” at Zurich’s Julien Kolly Gallery. Creating a series of paintings of different formats and sizes that stem from his sought-after graffiti work, JonOne looks to a myriad of colors and textures in his renditions. Blending familiar graffiti motifs with abstract techniques, the pieces resonate with JonOne’s tenure as an artist painting New York City subway trains in the ’80s, yet abstract shapes and strokes provide alternative moods — with names like “Science of the Sea,” “Moments of Truth” and “Rulers” being given to some of the work on display. The exhibition will run until March 22, be sure to check it out for yourself if you’re in the area.Julien Kolly GallerySeefeldstrasse
