Big Props for Nakba Day 76

Papier-maché symbols of solidarity with Palestine

I was helping to organize a march and rally in Portland to commemorate Nakba Day, the 76th anniversary of the Catastrophe which marks the beginning of Palestinian dispossession. I wanted to make some visual tools for myself and my comrades in the Portland DSA to carry, but I didn’t want to make banners or signs. I had an idea to make some big sculptural watermelon slices (the colors of the Palestinian flag) and keys (symbols of the Palestinian right to return- many of the refugees who fled in 1948 still have the keys to the homes they were forced from). I used to make a lot of big props like this for protests and rallies back in the day- I think it’s time for more!
