Nine years after I made a bootleg of all of the tracks/demos recorded for the never-completed second Main Source album with Large Professor, it’s now available on record, tape, CD and Spotify. Unsurprisingly, this all of the same material presented with varying levels of sound quality, with some phone interview snippets sprinkled in between.
Nice to it have all collected in one place (despite the ‘uncut’ version of ‘Front Door’ being censored this time around) and all, but when the record showed-up this week and I witnessed the glory of the previously unheard ‘Fakin’ The Funk’ demo mix first-hand, I was glad that I’d ponied-up. Not sure if this is a remix that Xtra-P did for just for this re-issue or if this is the actual first take After removing the obi strip I discovered the credits for this on the back of the LP, turns out this was produced by K-Cut and Navi The North (I’m guessing) specifically for this release. It’s the highlight of this version for me (outside of Paul’s amusing anti-television commentaries), since I will never tire of people rapping over ‘UFO’, and nor should you.
