Squarepusher just announced a new album

I have been spending a lot of time recently listening to UK electro-maestro Squarepusher. Notorious for his intense, expansive tracks and dazzling live performances, I was delighted by the news that he’s just announced a new album!

The artist, real name Tom Jenkinson, has revealed that his new album will be called ‘Damogen Furies’ and it’s coming out on April 20 on Warp Records. This, incidentally, is the day before my birthday, so I’m pretty chuffed about that.

It’s Squarepusher’s first full album since 2012’s ‘Ufabulum,’ and follows on from his 2014 EP ‘Music For Robots.’ It was largely recorded on the road over the last two years, using special portable studio equipment in an attempt to emulate his home set up.

The press release also reveals that the album has been inspired by two specific styles: “Miles Davis-school jazz, and dance music,” two “distinct traditions” which come together to create a sound “that often straddles nightmarish drill ‘n’ bass and the early work of electric jazz pioneers.”

Expect to hear a “truthful, unembellished representation of how those instruments sound. All of the recordings here were made in one take, with no edits. It is a record that has the brutal energy and vivaciousness of a debut.”

Not sure what that actually means? Well he’s released both a trailer for the album, and its first single.

Here’s the trailer:

And you can download the single, ‘Rayc Fire 2’ for free off his website right here.

He’s about to embark on a European & US tour including dates at Coachella. There’s a couple dates in Japan mid-May, so let’s pray he’ll be sneaking in an Aussie visit while he’s on this side of the world!
