After 12 years of being a staple at Interscope Records, 50 cent and Jimmy Iovine & company have parted ways; 50 also announced that he has signed with Caroline/Capitol/UMG and will release his upcoming album Animal Ambition on June 3rd. 50′s departure makes him an independent artist again for the first time in 13 years. Sources say that there was an ongoing feud at the top of Interscope Records, and that the latest incident — where 50 Cent was left off of the recent XXL cover and replaced with Jimmy Iovine — was the last straw. Eminem had this to say about the situation:
Both myself and Shady Records are grateful to have had the chance to play a part in 50′s career. Shady simply would not be what it is without 50 Cent. I’ve developed a great friendship with 50 over the years, and that’s not going to change. We know 50 will have success in his new situation, and we remain supporters of both him and G-Unit.
