Y’all probably remember Death from A Band Called Death, the ever compelling documentary that shined some light on the heartwarming and inspiring origin story of that innovative group of brothers from Detroit, whose careers came to a roaring halt when guitarist David Hackney tragically passed. The electric trio is slated to drop Death III, an archival LP composed of recordings from throughout the embattled groups careers, ranging from 1975-1992, commemorating the legacy of their brother David in one monstrous romp of a release.
Many have ascribed the heavily mythologized “punk” label to Death, but if you’ve actually heard any of their material, you might liken them more to the funk-fusion of Parliament or even pre-KISS seventies rock. In the build-up to the archival release, they’ve dropped a strong standout from the project in “North Street,” a relentlessly paced driven blues heater. Their second release from the album will come on February 18th with the 7-inch drop of their 1990 recording “We’re Gonna Make It” and the album itself will soon follow on April 22nd via the Drag City imprint. We’ll keep you up on all things in the world of Death, but go ahead get a taste of their throwback “North Street” below.
